Project Background
BOE is a global innovator in the Internet of Things and a major semiconductor display manufacturer, producing more than a quarter of the world’s display panels. Display panel factories require tightly controlled production environments and reliable utility services. Their utility plants must operate consistently while keeping energy costs under control.
This project focuses on the utility plant at BOE’s new energy campus, building on existing energy-saving controls to unlock further savings while introducing intelligent energy optimization, safety diagnostics, and maintenance capabilities.
Utility Plant Optimization
Coordinated Equipment Control and Setpoint Optimization
The project refines coordinated equipment control and system setpoints, bringing multiple utility plant assets under a unified control framework. Based on actual operating conditions and changing loads, the system coordinates equipment combinations and key settings to better match utility supply with factory demand.
Intelligent Operations and Maintenance
Alongside energy optimization, the project introduces safety diagnostics and maintenance capabilities. The platform analyzes operating data to detect anomalies and generates diagnostic alerts and maintenance work orders, helping operators address equipment issues promptly, improve process control, and support production safety.
Projected Energy Savings and Wider Deployment
According to the original article, the two project phases are expected to save more than 8 million kWh annually. The solution is being rolled out across BOE Group, with implementation underway at three factory buildings. These savings are projections; actual performance should be verified through on-site operating data and project acceptance results.
Practical Value for Display Panel Manufacturing
Utility systems in display panel factories feature diverse equipment, continuous operation, and stringent safety requirements. This project demonstrates how coordinated equipment control, setpoint adjustments, and intelligent diagnostics can further improve utility plant management within an existing energy-saving control system. It provides a practical reference for semiconductor display production, electronics manufacturing, and other continuous manufacturing operations.
From Individual Improvements to Continuous Optimization
Intelligent utility plant upgrades depend on integrating energy control and safe operation within a single data-driven feedback loop. Continuous data collection, analysis, diagnostics, and control give operators clearer visibility into plant performance and establish a foundation for replication across multiple facilities.
